Flying to India

I am just about to order your book. What a deal at 13 bucks! (I hope I get it before I leave.) Anyway, here's my question for you:

I am not a very frequent flyer—the last time I flew was 5 years ago. I will be visiting my family in India in some time and have not yet bought my ticket. I intend to fly from EWR (Newark, NJ) or JFK Intl. In New York, to BOM (Mumbai, f.k.a Bombay, India). I'll probably be connecting in London (British Air/Air India), Amsterdam (NW/KLM) or Frankfurt, depending on who I fly with.

Do you have any specific tips for people like me? Do you have any carrier recommendations for me?

Thank you! =)

Hi Ravi,

With respect to your flight and upgrading, your timing is pretty good. Due to the current problems plaguing the airlines, you should get a good price and have excellent chances for upgrading. I would recommend flying with an U.S. carrier; they will be more likely to have flexibility with respect to upgrading. Simply follow the techniques I discuss in my book, such as, stress that you're willing to continue your business relationship with the airline, and so forth, and you should find yourself flying in luxury. You might consider Delta’s flight #118 for a direct flight between JFK and Mumbai.

PS: Here's a great place to compare cheap airfare to India.
