Miles for the Troops

A friend told me I could transfer my sky miles to a person in the Army.
Is this true? If so, how do I do this? My friend has several thousand miles that she would like to give to my son. Thank you for your help.

Hi Lorinda,

Yes, Delta does have a program for SkyMiles members to donate miles to support the United States military's Operation Iraqi Freedom. This program is scheduled to continue until September 30, 2004. My understanding of the program. however, is that SkyMiles members cannot specify a recipient for the miles. Rather, miles are pooled and individuals are selected by the Combined Forces Land Component Commander (CFLCC) once a month. However, I suggest that you call Delta’s headquarters in Atlanta at 404-715-2600 and ask to speak to the Sky Miles Department. If you are told that you cannot contact this department directly, then ask for the marketing department. If they cannot help, call back to the same number and ask for Hazel who is the receptionist for the executive team, gently explain to her your wishes and ask her to refer you to someone who can discuss this issue with you. Basically, you are requesting a special accommodation, so be resourceful and stress your case in a compelling manner. You can find full details about the program here.

Good luck and thank your son for the hard work that he and his colleagues are doing.
