When Can I Use My Miles?
Hi. I've just signed up to AAdvantage having booked a flight 3 weeks ago. I was wondering if it's possible to redeem miles from a reservation that is already made? Also, is it possible to redeem miles from the One World Alliance. I've been on 4 continents in the past 2 years with Iberia, Aer Lingus, and BA.
Thanks.

Hi Grace,
I am not completely sure from your question if you already have miles or would like to use the miles you’ll earn from your reserved flight. Since you recently signed up with the AAdvantage plan I presume that you are asking if you can use the miles you would receive from your reserved flight. The way frequent flyer miles work is that flight miles are not credited to your account until you have actually flown on the flight. Naturally, if you have existing miles they can be used to upgrade your currently reserved flight.
With respect to flights earned within the One World Alliance, with a few exceptions, any miles you have with alliance members can be used for flights with other alliance members. (Check program rules for current restrictions).
Good luck with building your loyalty with American Airlines.
All the best,
Joel
