Credit Card for Greece

Hi.

I was wondering what would be the best credit card to get if I want to earn miles that I can use for international flights. We try to travel to Greece every year so I want a miles card that would accommodate these needs.

Thanks, Georgia

Hi Georgia,

The answer depends on the amount of flexibility you desire. If you tend to fly with one airline and their alliance partners (what I recommend) then you would be best served with that airline's affiliated credit card. For example, if you flew Delta on your regular treks to Greece, you might consider applying for their Delta SkyMiles card. You will earn a 10,000 point enrollment bonus, double points on most purchases, and the points will go directly into your SkyMiles account making them easy to use. Most of the major airlines have affiliated credit card programs.

If you would rather not be locked into one airline’s program you can use any number of bank-issued credit cards, an American Express Card, or the Diners Club Card. These cards provide the flexibility of using your points with a variety of providers, however, they tend not to offer the same point earning advantages as cards affiliated with a direct airline program. In addition, there can be a delay before the miles are entered into your airline's account.

For a more comprehensive review of How to Choose a Credit Card, I recommend my new book, The Penny Pincher’s Passport to Luxury Travel, 2nd Edition.

All the best,

Joel
