Seven to South America
Although I have not read your book, I do know many people who have and have given me advice about having a better flying experience. However, I do have a question. In a few weeks I will be traveling with seven people, including myself, on an American airline but going to South America. How can I get all of us upgraded to first/business class so that we can actually get some sleep since it is almost a 10 hour flight? Is this even possible?

Hi Matthew,
It’s good to hear that someone is reading my book. Upgrading all seven of you might be a chore. In most instances, if seats are available prior to departure, one person or a couple can score upgraded seats. But finding seven empty seats in business or first class to South America will be tough. What you’ll need is a compelling reason why you should be upgraded. Perhaps it could be your ongoing loyalty or your ability to bring larger groups back to the airline.
Keep in mind that flights to South America are usually full. This can work against you or in your favor. If the coach cabin is full and the upper classes are empty, you’ll have a great chance for an upgrade by being the first in line asking for the upgrade. On the other hand, if both cabins are full it will be a tough task.
Remain optimistic but realistic—a bit of good luck is always helpful.
All the best,
Joel
