Australia in the Spring
I will be traveling to Australia this spring with a companion.
Between us, we have tons of miles on American, United, and US Air.
Can any of these be used to upgrade on Qantas to business class? Or, failing that can the miles earned on the way over be used to upgrade on the way home? We will be gone 3 to 4 weeks.
Is it worth joining Quantas's frequent flier program, or should we just add the miles to existing accounts? Thanks!

Dear Pat,
You won’t be able to combine your mileage points without losing almost 60% of your points. You can consider flying United Airlines which will allow you to combine your U.S. Air and United points for a free flight or upgrade.
As a side note, since you appear to accumulate a lot of miles I would consider consolidating into one airline program to maximize your reward benefits.
My best,
Joel
