For close to thirty years Kuta Beach has had a reputation as a place where anything goes, but that doesn’t mean local police will turn a blind eye on illicit activity. Thirteen foreigners (one Swiss, nine French and three Italian tourists) were arrested Aug. 20 on drug charges when a bungalow was raided. Police confiscated a few grams of cocaine and hashish, and the offenders face ten years in prison if convicted. When traveling abroad, remember that foreigners are subject to the laws of the land they’re visiting, not the laws of their home country, and nothing can be done to change that.
