The worst bombing in Bangladesh’s history occurred at an office of the ruling Awami League June 16, killed 22 and injured many others. Ultra-right members of the opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party are being blamed by the government in what appears to be an attempt to influence elections planned for October. Such political violence in the run-up to an election is common here. This incident serves as a reminder to avoid contact with political parties, demonstrations or other political activities because violence is often associated with them.
