Disgruntled hotel workers have threatened to strike Aug. 23 if talks between hoteliers and union officials do not make progress. A strike set for Aug. 16 was called off when the labor minister personally intervened hoping to find a solution. If the strike takes place, services at hotels around the island will be disrupted at the height of the tourist season, a blow to the Cypriot economy. Tourism represents 20 percent of Cyprus’ GDP.
