India celebrates its independence day August 15, and this year police are concerned that al-Qaeda or other militant Islamic groups might stage an attack. A police official, quoting intelligence reports, said that terrorists were believed to be planning attacks in North Bengal to divert attention from their covert operations in Jammu and Kashmir.
