Anti-Americanism is on the rise here, sparked by the conflict in the Middle East. The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta closed its consular and visa sections for a week in response to ongoing protests and a lack of commitment by the Indonesian government to provide security. Tensions between the embassy and senior Indonesian officials are growing over the perceived spreading of disinformation by government ministers. Further, groups of Muslim radicals searched hotels for Americans in the city of Solo and gave them 48 hours to leave the area. Whether this sort of incident will spread to other cities remains to be seen.
