A car bomb exploded at the Jakarta Marriott Hotel Aug. 5 killing at least 15 people and injuring close to 150. Analysts believe the suicide attack was the work of Jemaah Islamiah, the regional terrorist organization responsible for the Bali bombing last October. The attack came just days before the first verdicts in the Bali bomb trial were expected. The luxury J.W. Marriott Hotel opened in 2001 and is used by the U.S. Embassy to house temporary duty personnel. Most of the victims were Indonesian. No Americans were killed in the attack.
