In an effort to ease congestion during the holidays, officials have banned motor vehicles from the center of Rome between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. until Jan. 13. Buses and taxis are still permitted into the area known as the Trident, which includes the Piazza del Popolo, the Spanish Steps and Via dei Condotti, but motorcycles, normally ubiquitous in Italian cities, are part of the ban. Residents of the area who have garages are allowed to use their cars.
