Company Overview and Philosophy
Travelers’ Tales was founded in 1993 by travel writers James O’Reilly and Larry Habegger and computer book publisher Tim O’Reilly. Travelers’ Tales publishes the best in travel and spiritual writing written by both world-famous authors and new and emerging writers. Travelers’ Tales is a publishing company with the goal of inspiring and enlightening readers through true stories from fellow travelers.
Book Categories
Travelers’ Tales has more than 80 books in print. The ten series categories include country and regional guides, travel advice books, books with the themes of women’s travel, spirituality, food, humor and adventure; gift books; Footsteps: The Soul of Travel, a series that features single-author travel narratives; and Travelers’ Tales Classics, a series introducing out-of-print travel favorites to a whole new audience.
Key Management
James O’Reilly, Travelers’ Tales president and publisher and Larry Habegger, Travelers’ Tales executive editor, wrote mystery serials together before becoming travel writers in the early 1980’s. As Travelers’ Tales series editors they have won many awards for excellence. James and Larry are also active members of The Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) and for more than twenty years they wrote the syndicated travel column, “World Travel Watch,” which Larry continues to write for major newspapers.
