Several violent incidents have occurred since March in places frequented by tourists. The worst were explosions in the Morning Market and a restaurant near Nam Phu Plaza, but there have also been bombings at Vientiane’s Central Post Office, Central Bus Station and outside two other restaurants. A small bomb was also discovered in Vientiane’s domestic airport. Violence has been reported throughout Xieng Khouang province, including the Plain of Jars. Travel to parts of this province has been restricted by the Lao government because of violence and banditry, so check with local authorities before venturing out. The U.S. government has received reports that an unnamed group may attack tourists in the Bolovens Plateau region in southern Laos sometime within the next two months.
