Hurricane Isidore lashed the Yucatan Peninsula leaving 300,000 people homeless and two dead. The storm uprooted trees and downed power poles in Merida, the historic capital city of Yucatan state. Cleanup is underway. The popular archaeological sites of Chichen Itza and Uxmal suffered no damage beyond the downing of trees.
