Travelers to Chiapas should know that, according to an official of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), there are ten “hot spots” in the state where violence is likely to break out because of religious and political differences. These areas are Mitziton, Chamula, Zinacantan, Venustiano Carranza, Nicolas Ruiz, Amatenango de la Frontera, Chalchihuitan, Chenalho, Tila and the Las Margaritas zone.
