Ethnic violence is increasing in Nigeria, with three separate conflicts occurring since May between different groups. Itsekiri, Urhobo and Ijaw tribes in the Niger River delta clashed in a dispute over government favors and oil revenues; Ijaws and Ilajes clashed in a land dispute in Ondo state; Yorubas and Hausas, Nigeria’s two largest ethnic groups, clashed first in the southwestern city of Sagamu and later in the northern city of Kano.
