A Pakistani opposition party leader called for attacks against Americans if the U.S. government tried to capture Osama bin Laden. Maulana Fazalur Rehman of Jamiat-Ulema-Islami (JUI), an Islamic party, made the threats at rallies in several cities in early August. U.S. diplomats asked him to withdraw the threats but he only repeated them. As a consequence, the Pakistani police have increased security around U.S. diplomatic posts and all roads leading to them.
