Peruvian authorities say they stopped a plot by Shining Path terrorists to bomb the U.S. Embassy in Lima Dec. 3, the birthday of the group’s imprisoned leader, Abimael Guzman. Shortly thereafter, the U.S. State Department announced that the group may be planning other attacks, perhaps against U.S. interests, throughout the month of December. The Shining Path has been marginalized in recent years, but is still capable of the occasional attack, so the threat should not be dismissed.
