This is a great and timely question. Many Aeroplan members are uneasy about the future of the Aeroplan program and are looking for ways to cash in their miles before they might disappear.
You have a few choices: First you can book a flight on one of the 14 Star Alliance members that partner with Air Canada, including United Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Lufthansa. One strategy is for you to book a flight 11 months in advance, then if you later decide not to take the flight and Air Canada is still around; you can redeposit your points in your Aeroplan account for a $75 fee.
Another option is to transfer your points to Points.com. A program that allows you to convert points to items including long-distance phone minutes, Starbucks coffee cards, books and other merchandise. However, beware that there is an enrollment fee and you can lose up to 85 per cent of your points during the conversion.
Probably the best option is to use your Aeroplan Miles for rewards offered through Aeroplan’s new YourStyle Rewardprogram.
YourStyle Rewards includes over 100 unique rewards packages offering a wide range of opportunities designed for the varied interests and lifestyles of travelers. Points can be redeemed for activities including golf, spa services, language schools, wine tasting, and more. Check out the Aeroplan YourStyle Reward web site for more information.
