The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an advisory May 1 suggesting that travelers contemplating nonessential travel to Taiwan “may wish to postpone their trips until further notice.” Taiwanese authorities announced May 2 that all passengers arriving on aircraft from SARS-affected areas (Hong Kong, Singapore and Toronto) will be required to wear masks during their flights. Those who refuse to comply will face an unspecified “severe penalty” and will be placed in a special section of the plane.
