The governments of Australia, Britain and Denmark recently warned their citizens to be cautious in Phuket for fear of a Bali-like terrorist attack, but the Thai government is fighting back, saying there is no evidence of additional risk in Thailand. Authorities have launched a “Thailand is Safe” campaign and put security officials on high alert, including extra patrols at diplomatic posts, railway stations and tourist attractions. They are hoping to stave off the economic blow of reduced tourism at a time when they were expecting increased traffic as a result of the attack in Bali.
