Four bombs exploded in Istanbul in the early hours of Aug. 10, two in hotels in the old city, the city’s main tourist section. Two people were killed and eleven injured. Neither hotel, the Pars hotel in the Laleli district or the Star Holiday hotel in Sultanahmet, is affiliated with international chains. Both are inexpensive hotels popular with foreign tourists. Police suspect a terrorist attack rather than a criminal incident, and a Kurdish group has claimed responsibility.
